ERASMUS ICT YES – KAUNAS, LITHUANIA 8th - 11th October 2020
Our team of students took part in another educational trip as part of the Erasmus + International Culture and Traditions programme - Young Explorers on the Start! This time the partner school "Vyturio" secondary schools in Kaunas hosted the meeting and organized a series of workshops and educational excursions. The topis was the architectural heritage and arrangements regarding the digital heritage of partner countries. On the first day of the visit, all delegations were welcomed by the coordinator and the school management. During student presentations, project participants presented the architectural heritage of their local communities. Our students showed the richness of local historic temples and churches, in particular the historic nearly five hundred year old church in Święcany, the medieval town of Biecz with historic sacral buildings and the open-air museum - Carpathian Troy, a unique archaeological discovery to learn about the prehistory of the entire Central and Eastern Europe. On that day, young people also participated in the work of international groups, whose aim was to search for similarities and differences in the architecture of each country. Students took part in an educational programme, in collaboration with the Kaunas Academy of Arts, to better understand the architectural heritage, and in active outdoor workshops. Kaunas also turned out to be an interesting city in terms of street art and many modernist buildings. On the second and third day, educational trips were organized: a trip to the Curonian Spit National Park and to Trakai. One of the main natural attractions was the shifting sand dunes in the landscape park and the town of Nida, which is an old fishing village on the Baltic Sea. Students could see the Thomas Mann Memorial Museum, located in his summer house near Klaipeda, and participate in an amber workshop. During the trip to Trakai, the participants took part in another educational programme, "Architectural and digital heritage of the castle in Trakai." They visited a Gothic residential and defensive castle from the 15th century on the island with adjacent buildings. The last day was a time of reflection, summaries and goodbyes. During the workshop "Everyone Can Be an Architect", students gained practical knowledge of design, estimation and engineering and created an interactive guide to the architectural heritage. The visit to Kaunas was an opportunity to make friends, learn about the culture, language and traditions of the peoples of Europe.
